On 15 November 2018, a day after the agreement was presented and supported by the Cabinet of the British government, several members of the government resigned, including Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.  This triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, which defines the procedure for a Member State`s exit from the Union, and triggers a two-year countdown to withdrawal. The promise that the government`s position in the negotiations on the future relationship will be in line with the political declaration that accompanied the Withdrawal Agreement.
